WHEN / HOW · THE REPAIR PROCESS

From first concern to a documented repair

A practical sequence for describing a home repair, reviewing the assessment, approving a defined scope and retaining completion evidence.

A good repair process leaves a clear record at each decision. These stages help you ask for that record; they are not a promise of a particular provider’s availability or procedure.

Describe the concern

Give the component, location, first observation and any recurrence. Keep guesses about the cause separate. Use safe existing photographs; do not disturb material or test a suspect fitting to produce evidence.

Plan the photo record →

Confirm the right route

Check the listed postal territory, home type and authority to arrange work. Identify any immediate danger or specialist question that falls outside an ordinary repair enquiry. A matching code does not book a visit.

Check the territory →

Agree what the assessment includes

Ask who will attend, the business identity, applicable credentials, inspection fee, access needs and expected written output. Define what can be inspected and what will remain inaccessible.

Ask for a written appraisal →

Compare the options

Request a link between findings and proposed work, including why a smaller repair is accepted or rejected. Compare quantities, exclusions, allowances, tax as stated and the same finish boundary. Unknown scope remains unknown.

Compare repair proposals →

Review before approving

Keep the original report. Build a customer review pack if useful, and ask an independent person or AI tool to help organize questions. Check any answer against the evidence and the provider’s written clarification.

Prepare a review pack →

Approve a defined scope

Record the accepted version, work boundary, amounts, payment stages and change process. A message asking for an estimate is not permission to perform all recommended work.

Document a change →

Close the record

Review normal operation and the agreed finish with the provider. Collect stage photographs, final scope, product information, warranty wording and remaining restrictions. Record deferred items rather than treating silence as completion.

Check the handover →
